ABOUT VILLA
We do not have the exact year of construction, but it can certainly be said that the villa was already functioning around the 1900s. Even that long ago, in 1900, the villa was equipped with the most modern plumbing and electrical installations.
A special curiosity was the interior – the rich and diverse internal fit of the lounge. In the park near the villa, there also existed a large fountain with a fishpond. A small zoo with deer, birds, and other animals was found there aswell.
In place of the prefabricated building, there was a hangar to accommodate the saloon coach belonging to the company’s owner. It operated on the railway line Zavidovići – Olovo on special occasions when distinguished foreign guests went hunting or visiting worksites in the woods.
The villa was originally created as a residential building for the company “Eissler und Ortlieb”, where its director, Mr. Fritz Regenstreif, lived. Later it was the administrative building of the “Krivaja” Company.
Eissler und Ortlieb, founded in 1884, was one of the largest and most modern factories in Europe at the time.
It exploited the forest capital of the Krivaja basin. This company started the construction of today’s sawmill Krivaja-Mobel, as well as other plants.
Villa Krivaja was built as part of a complex for the exploitation of wood and is a remnant of an early era of industrialization in BiH.
Given that the appearance and character of factory facilities built during the Austro-Hungarian governance in BiH changed intensively through time, following shifts in industrial trends – the administrative buildings in this, and other complexes are often the only indicators of the historical continuity of such sites today.
This building is an example of a residential villa from times of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in BiH with distinct Romantic-era features in the exterior, such as the prominent “bondruc” construction, decorative wooden
motifs, use of different types of windows, external staircases, and porches.
The villa embellishes the”Radnička” (Workers’) Street in the industrial area of the city of Zavidovići, standing out among other facilities for its unusual construction.
Decorated with a green roof, as well as an ornamented exterior: the villa is a small green oasis in a small city sitting on three rivers.
Despite the reconstructions, the villa has kept its original
appearance. During the last reconstruction, after the last war,
the roof tiles were replaced. The tiles were specially ordered from Hungary, from the same company that once produced the original tiles for its construction.
Zavidovići is a town with several villas, which were built in the period from the end of the 19th century until the 1930s.
