ABOUT MOSQUE
Back in 1903, a mosque was built in the village of Kurtice at the foot of the Ozren mountain, which was in use until 1918, when it was dismantled and transferred by ox-drawn carriage to Rujnica village, Zavidovici municipality. The old mosque in Rujnica functioned until 1934, when the locals decided to build a new one on the same site.
Thus, in 1934/1935 the mosque in Rujnica was built of hard material, and the only memory of the original mosque was its built-in wooden minaret. This mosque was in operation until 1988. Then, due to the weather, it began to decay and was no longer suitable for performing religious rites.
In2007, the Mejlis of the Islamic Community of Zavidovici submitted a proposal to the Preservation of National Monuments Commission to designate old mosque in Rujnica as a national monument. At its 48th session, the Commission made a decision and declared the mosque a national monument.
